The IGB Mobile Science Learning Lab

Mobile Science Learning Lab

The mobile STEM lab is an initiative by the outreach team at the Carl R. Woese Institute for Genomic Biology. With this approach, the team aims to clarify the role of genomics in all aspects of life, stressing the importance of science literacy for non-scientists. The lab will deliver hands-on engagement with genomics research in areas including genetically modified organisms, microbiomes, antibiotic resistance, CRISPR, and personalized health.

Who can book a visit with the bus?

Teachers or community program leaders interested in providing real hands-on science content for their students.

What kinds of equipment are on the bus?

Microscopes, pipettes, thermal cyclers, gel docks, incubators, sequencers, and more. We bring the whole lab to your doorstep.

Acknowledgements

Many thanks to Carl Zeiss Microscopy, LLC, Illumina, Inc., and the Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District for generously providing equipment and funding in order to make this mobile lab possible.
