Each year the IGB invites community members to participate in Genome Day, an afternoon of learning about genomes, genes, DNA, and evolution at a local Champaign-Urbana venue. At this free event, Illinois scientists offer activities related to genomics, including learning how organisms relate to each other on the Tree of Life, extracting strawberry DNA to make necklaces, and understanding how genomics pervades every aspect of our daily lives.

Does my child need to be a certain age to enjoy Genome Day?

People of all ages are welcome at Genome Day! While many activities are designed with K-8 students in mind, almost all can be adapted for everyone from toddlers to senior citizens.

Can my class/group attend Genome Day?

Yes, please do! Anyone is welcome and there is no registration requirement; if your group is large, it may be the easiest to attend together at a time either towards the beginning or end of the event when it may be a little less crowded.
